An Outdoor Receptacle Under a Leaky Hose Bib Will Keep Tripping
The cover is closed. The hose bib is still dripping on it.
We still replace in-use covers on farmhouse walls while the hose bib above them weeps all season. The GFCI opens. The owner buys another receptacle. The drip never moved. An outdoor receptacle under a leaky hose bib is a plumbing-plus-electrical location problem. A weatherproof cover cannot win that fight.
Exterior devices belong with residential services. Shop and yard circuits on a working farm sit with agricultural services when the load is more than a single GFCI.
Move the outlet off the water, then pick the cover
Photograph the bib, the outlet, and the stain on the siding. If the bib is the leak, say so. We can relocate the receptacle, add a drip loop, and use a cover that matches wet location. We cannot make a GFCI happy while it sits in a constant wet stripe. Freeze-thaw on the northern plains makes that stripe worse, not better.
Landscape lighting and deck receptacles that stay dry are a different layout. This article is the hose-bib case. Related spring outdoor notes sit on the blog.

Get the receptacle out from under the leak. Then the cover has a chance.
